Abstrakti

Sëmundja e murtajës ishte një armik i padukshëm dhe godiste herë pas here, duke shuar nga faqja e dheut popullsitë e fshatrave dhe të qyteteve, dhe shpeshherë pakësonte në mënyrë drastike edhe popullsinë e një vendi të tërë. Artikulli i mëposhtëm trajton murtajën, një nga problemet më të mëdha për Ballkanin dhe trojet tona, por edhe për popujt e tjerë të Europës. Për murtajën në trojet shqiptare kanë shkruar disa autorë të huaj dhe shqiptarë, si B. Hrabak, K. Kërçiku, P. Xhufi, A. Muhaj etj., por ata janë përqendruar kryesisht në shek. XV dhe në periudhën osmane. Risia e këtij artikulli qëndron 
pikërisht në faktin se jemi përpjekur të japim të dhëna edhe për periudhën e Antikitetit, Mesjetës së Hershme dhe Mesjetës së Mesme. 
Për këtë jemi bazuar në literaturë historiografike shkencore dhe në disa dokumente, të cilat, në fakt, janë shumë të pakta për periudhat në fjalë. Ne do të përqendrohemi në disa raste të murtajës në territoret iliro-shqiptare, por edhe në ato të fqinjëve, duke filluar nga Antikiteti e duke përfunduar në shek. XI. Artikulli është ndarë në dy pjesë. Në pjesën e parë, na u duk e nevojshme të paraqesim një anamnezë të përgjithshme të sëmundjes, duke i shoqëruar këto të dhëna edhe me shembuj historikë, ndërsa pjesa e dytë do të trajtojë ngjarjet historike në lidhje me goditjet e kësaj sëmundjeje. Ky artikull është hulumtimi ynë i parë për historinë e murtajës në trojet shqiptare dhe do të pasohet edhe nga punime të tjera në të ardhmen.
