The Historical Studies journal has been regularly published by the Institute of History in Tirana from 1964 to the present day, with the exception of a short period (1991-1994) during which it was interrupted, as well as during the years (1994-1997) when it was published once a year. It is peer-reviewed and edited by both Albanian historians and historians from other countries. This process aligns with its aim to advance toward international standards and to give a new approach to the process of thinking and writing history. The journal serves as a common platform for historians everywhere who share an interest in studying the history of Albanians and the Southeast European region. The historical contributions are based on authentic archival research. The journal aims to reflect, through analysis and critical approach, the social, political, cultural, economic, diplomatic, military, and intellectual history of Albanians and beyond, fostering academic debate, and it remains open to new creative methodological approaches.

The Historical Studies journal publishes original, previously unpublished works such as scientific articles, reviews, scientific debates, new historical and methodological materials, and others. The journal does not publish works that lack a scientific approach and have a purely essayistic nature; that display or endorse racist or discriminatory concepts against others; or that, in any way, include hate speech, personal reflections, or literary writings without a scientific connection. Furthermore, works that are not in chronological and thematic aimes will not be published.

All the contributions submitted to the editorial board office are undergoing a rigorous scientific review, both within the initial editorial overview and subsequently through two double-blind peer reviews. The scientific contributions of researchers for the journal can be submitted in either Albanian or English. All contributions must include author’s institution affiliation, e-mail adresss, an abstract (Albanian or English), an article summary and 5-7 kewords in English.

The journal is published twice a year: Issue No. 1 in June and Issue No. 2 in December.

The Historical Studies journal is included in Crossref and Google Scholar.
